From an idea, to a piece of wearable ART
It all starts in wax!I sketch my design idea onto a piece of wax then use many different tools to carve it out
|
It's then moldedOnce it is carved I then pour a plaster mold around that piece of wax. When the mold is set I melt the wax out "lost wax casting process"
I then place my molds into the kiln, melt my glass and pour it in. The glass sits in the kiln for approx 24 hrs. Once broken out of its mold it is ground flat on the back then sandblasted on the front to give a beautiful matte finish . All molds are 1 time molds. |
The silverThe silver is also cast using the lost wax casting process. It is carved in wax and attached to the base of a flask. A plaster mold is then poured around that wax. Once it is set the wax is melted out in a burn out oven. I cast the silver into the mold using a centrifugal broken arm caster. Once cast it is then quenched in a bucket of water to dissolve the plaster mold. The silver is very rough so goes through many stages of filing and polishing before I attach it to the glass. All molds are 1 time molds.
